Resize image to KB makes a photo, scan or signature smaller than the size limit an online form asks for, such as 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB. It works in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.

How to resize an image to a size in KB

  1. Choose or drop one or more images: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (iPhone) and more.
  2. Type the size limit your form gives, in KB.
  3. Pick the dimensions: keep the original, a passport photo, a trimmed signature, or an exact width and height in pixels.
  4. Click Resize image and download the JPG, or a ZIP file for several images.

About Resize image to KB

PaperWingPDF first lowers the JPEG quality only as far as needed, so the picture stays as sharp as possible. If quality alone can’t reach your limit, it makes the picture smaller step by step until it fits. When you ask for exact dimensions, the size in pixels is kept and only the quality changes.

Online application forms for jobs, exams, visas, universities and government services often accept photos and signatures only up to a small size, sometimes with exact dimensions as well. Phone photos are usually 2–5 MB, so they need to shrink by 98% or more.

The options explained

Size limit (KB)
The largest file size your form accepts. The result is always just under it. 1 KB here means 1,000 bytes, so it is accepted whichever way the form counts.
Keep the original
Keeps the whole picture and its shape; it is only made smaller if needed.
Passport photo (35 × 45 mm)
Crops to the most common passport and visa photo size, 413 × 531 pixels at 300 dpi, centred slightly towards the top.
Signature (trim the empty space)
Finds your signature on the page, cuts away the empty paper around it and makes the background clean white.
Custom width and height
Crops the centre of the picture to exactly the width and height in pixels that your form asks for.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my form reject a photo that looks small?

Forms check the file size in KB, not how big the picture looks. A phone photo of a few centimetres can still be 3 MB. Resize image to KB brings it under the exact limit.

Will my photo lose quality?

As little as possible: quality is lowered only until the file fits. Very small limits, such as 10 KB, will soften fine detail, so check the result before uploading.

Can I resize several photos at once?

Yes. Add several images and each one is resized to the same limit; they download together in a ZIP file.

What if my form needs a minimum size too?

Type a limit close to the maximum, for example 48 KB for a 20–50 KB range, and the file will land just under it.

Does it work with iPhone photos?

Yes. HEIC photos are converted on your device first.

Is Resize image to KB free?

Yes. Resize image to KB is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. PaperWingPDF processes your files inside your browser, on your own device. They are never uploaded, and they are cleared from memory when you close the tab.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. PaperWingPDF works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone, with nothing to install.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 300 MB. Very large files depend on your device's memory, so a computer handles them faster than a phone.
