Chat with PDF lets you ask questions about any PDF and see where the answer comes from, with page numbers. Your document is read on your own device and is never uploaded, unlike most “chat with PDF” sites.
How to chat with a PDF
- Choose or drop your PDF: a report, contract, manual, paper or study notes.
- Click Start asking. The text is read on your device in a few seconds.
- Type a question, such as “What is the notice period?” or “When does the warranty end?”, or tap one of the suggested headings.
- Read the answer with its page numbers, then ask your next question.
About Chat with PDF
In Chrome with its built-in AI (Gemini Nano), Chat with PDF writes a short answer from the most relevant passages of your document and tells you which pages it used. In other browsers, or while Chrome is still downloading its model, it shows the passages that best match your question, with the matching words highlighted and their page numbers.
Either way, the AI never sees anything outside your document, and nothing is sent to a server: the search and the AI both run on your device. That makes it suitable for contracts, medical letters, bank documents and other files you would not upload to an online AI service.
Answers come only from the PDF’s text. For a scanned document, run OCR PDF first so its text can be read. Always check important details against the page shown.

Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to an AI service?
No. Your PDF is read in your browser. When Chrome’s built-in AI is used, it also runs on your device.
Why do I see passages instead of a written answer?
Written answers need an on-device AI model, which Chrome provides on supported computers. Without it, Chat with PDF shows the passages that answer your question, which is often faster to check anyway.
Does it work in Arabic and other languages?
Yes. Search works in any language the PDF’s text is in, including Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and Chinese. Written AI answers depend on the languages Chrome’s model supports.
Can it make mistakes?
Yes, like any AI. Every answer shows the page numbers it came from, so you can check it.
Is Chat with PDF free?
Yes. Chat with PDF is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. PaperWingPDF processes your files inside your browser, on your own device. They are never uploaded, and they are cleared from memory when you close the tab.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. PaperWingPDF works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone, with nothing to install.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 300 MB. Very large files depend on your device's memory, so a computer handles them faster than a phone.
